Albemarle County Jail Roster Overview
The official adult jail for Albemarle County is Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. It is operated by the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail Authority and serves Albemarle County, Charlottesville, and Nelson County. The official source set reviewed did not show a conventional ACRJ page that lists all current inmates with static booking profiles. Instead, the jail navigation labels "Inmate Locator" and routes users to Virginia VINE.
That makes the local search sequence different from a county that publishes a sheriff roster. VINE is the first custody-status channel. ACRJ Records is the next local fallback for questions about jail records, release calculations, and jail credit within its stated limits. Virginia courts are the better source for charges and court dates, while VADOC, BOP, and ICE cover separate custody systems outside the local jail roster.
The official Virginia VINE person-search page is the custody-status route ACRJ points users toward for inmate lookup.
Using VINE first helps separate current jail custody from court records, state corrections records, and federal or immigration custody systems.
Sheriff Chan Bryant and the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office remain important local justice contacts for court security, prisoner transportation, and civil process. Jail custody records, however, route through ACRJ. The sheriff's office does not replace the ACRJ Records Department for current custody or release-processing questions.
Use Albemarle County Inmate Lookup
Use the lookup channel in stages. ACRJ's own records page links VINE to check inmate status anywhere, while ACRJ Records handles the local jail-record questions that VINE does not answer. If a person was sentenced to state time, transferred, or held under a different authority, a local custody search can miss them.
- Open Virginia VINE and search under Virginia by the person's legal name.
- If the name is common, try known spelling variants or additional identifying details available through VINE.
- If VINE does not locate the person, call ACRJ Records at 434-977-6981 ext. 303 during records hours or call the main jail number at 434-977-6981.
- For charges and court dates, search Virginia courts by name, case number, or hearing date.
- For state-sentenced custody, use the VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator instead of the local jail route.
Do not assume a missing VINE result means no arrest occurred. A person may have been released quickly, listed under a spelling variant, held for another jurisdiction, moved into state custody, or not yet reflected in a public-facing status tool.
Albemarle County Roster Search Fields
The Virginia VINE page is a dynamic search system. The research pass captured the official route and purpose, but not a static HTML form with every label exposed. The field inventory below reflects the official ACRJ route and the visible VINE use pattern from the source set.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| State | Dropdown or route | Yes | Use Virginia. ACRJ links directly to the Virginia person-search route. |
| Person search / name | Text | Likely yes | Use the full legal name and try common spelling variants. |
| Notification registration | Account or contact fields | Optional after locating a person | VINE is used for custody-status notification, often by phone or email. |
| Search / submit | Button | Yes | The exact label was not captured from the JavaScript-rendered page. |
The ACRJ Records Department page is the key backup when the roster search does not resolve the question. It lists Brandi Thompson as Records Supervisor and gives records-unit hours as Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
Albemarle County Inmate Profile Details
No official ACRJ public sample profile with a booking number, housing field, mugshot, and charge list was captured from static pages. That gap should be preserved. For Albemarle County inmate records, profile details are split among custody, records, and court channels.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Custody status | VINE and ACRJ Records can confirm current jail-status information. |
| Release calculation | ACRJ Records can answer local jail sentence questions for sentences of 12 months or less with no detainers or pending charges elsewhere. |
| Bond amount | Inmates must send an Inmate Request Form to ACRJ Records for bond amounts on charges they are held on. |
| Court date | Inmate request to ACRJ Records or Virginia court case search. |
| Jail credit | ACRJ keeps past and current jail-credit records for three years. |
| Housing unit | Public visitation labels include West Side, HU2, Ground Floor, HU3, Medical, Intake, and Trustee. Ask ACRJ for current housing. |
| Mugshot or booking photo | No static ACRJ mugshot roster was found. Booking-photo requests route through ACRJ FOIA and Virginia law-enforcement records law. |
What ACRJ Records Provides
ACRJ Records prepares, maintains, and oversees criminal records and reports on all inmates in the jail. Its public page is unusually specific about limits. It can address some local jail sentence, release-date, and jail-credit questions, but it is not the source for warrants, sentencing orders, dispositions, federal release dates, criminal histories, or VADOC legal update sheets.
Release timing is a common problem. ACRJ states that releases cannot be processed until actual court orders are received directly from all courts, and that this may take several days. If the person has more than one case, a detainer, a pending charge elsewhere, or a state or federal hold, one local bond or one court event may not clear the person for release.
Note: A court result can appear online before ACRJ receives the order needed to process release.
Albemarle County, State, Federal Custody
Current Albemarle County jail custody is separate from state prison custody, federal prison custody, and immigration detention. ACRJ covers local pretrial and short-sentence jail custody. VADOC covers state custody and supervision. BOP covers federal prison custody from 1982 to present. ICE ODLS covers immigration detention searches by A-Number or biographical information.
| Custody | Where to Look | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Pretrial or local jail sentence | Virginia VINE, then ACRJ Records | No static ACRJ roster was located in the official source set. |
| State sentenced or supervised | VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator | Updated daily, but the state warns data may be inaccurate or outdated. |
| Federal prison | BOP Inmate Locator | Federal pretrial detainees may not appear if held for U.S. Marshals outside BOP custody. |
| Immigration detention | ICE ODLS | Search by A-Number and country of birth or by exact biographical data. |

Booking Process in Albemarle County
Adult arrestees who are not released by summons or magistrate process may be transported to ACRJ by Albemarle County Police, Charlottesville Police, sheriff's deputies, Virginia State Police, UVA Police, or another agency in the service area. ACRJ Records creates and maintains inmate records. Medical staff screen new commitments for infectious disease, dental issues, and mental-health problems, and classification case managers assess charges, medical and mental-health needs, education, temperament, and program needs before housing.
Housing labels visible in the visitation schedule include West Side General Population, Special Management, Medical, Intake, HU2, Ground Floor, HU3, and Trustee. Those labels are useful local context, but they should not be treated as fields guaranteed to appear in a public roster.
Albemarle County Jail Visitation Rules
